One of the best holidays we have had. Taking a 13 year old away can be stressful. Not once did we need to stress as everything he needed was here, Playstation, Computer & Pool.
Wonderful, stress free holiday. Amazing place.

Thank you for a fabulous holiday. Very relaxed & stress free. The house, pool, games room and advice regarding the area were all fantastic and gratefully received. All the best and hope to see you again.

What an amazing job you have done on the two houses. We have loved every minute we have spent here as a family. Your own hospitality also added that extra special touch. You have thought of everything! We hope that it is not too long before we are able to return. Very sad to be leaving today.

The Whittaker Family, Cheshire

This isn’t ‘home from home’ – it’s way, way better! There is nothing that Jan & Mick have not thought of for every single member of the family, from the smallest (18months) to the oldest (71 years). We had everything we could have dreamed of (even some things we can only dream of), the playroom is inspired! We would also like to thank you very much for your own hospitality (Aperos!). We will return and fingers crossed, it will be next year.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I love it here, can I come back? - Jenkin age 5 ¾

What a beautiful house you have put at our disposal and what a nice atmosphere you create for the inhabitants. We have enjoyed it very much! Especially, we were touched by the fact that you organised the ‘premier étape’ of the Tour de France to pass by at our arrival and the big firework display on our last evening together (14th July). We wish you all the best with all your plans in the future and thank you very much for everything.

I loved the pool and the cats. Great house and great garden. Thank you

I love the pool and the inflatables. The house is lovely and the games room is wicked. Plus, thank you for my cake it was lovely. As well as the garden I liked the sofas in the lounge. Absolutely wonderful, plus the owners are lovely (Jan & Mick). Love to come again.

We had a great 2 weeks holiday here, the house is lovely and has everything you could possibly need. We have 3 children between 1 & 13 and there was something for them all. Jan & Mick are lovely, very helpful with lots of herbs & alcoholic beverages!! Thank you for a lovely holiday

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week here – thank you. Genuinely genial and thoughtful hosts are hard to find! The gites and gardens are stunning and Jay loved both the pool and the playroom.
Next time, we hope to do Willy’s restaurant, here in the village. The food we have had has been excellent, especially at Luçon’s L’avant Gout. We have also enjoyed Mervent and the unspoilt beaches at Le Point d’Arçey.

Thank you Jan & Mick for a lovely stay here. You have made us feel really at home. We have enjoyed spending time at the fantastic pool- Beth even learnt to swim! And playing in the huge garden, at times we could even have lost the children! It’s been really relaxing and very peaceful and we would love to come and stay again another year.

Day 1: Wonderful hospitality by Mick & Jan with kids straight in the pool and a few well-earned beers for the grown-ups! We sat for a few hours in the evening sun and just enjoyed our beautiful surroundings. Lovely!
Day 2: Early start with 14month old Scarlett demanding milk and the boys (6) & (8) demanding a bike ride; they loved the country lanes, donkeys to feed and the lovely church. Sunday market by the school was delightful with great veg, meats, bread & wine to taste. Definitely a locals choice for an early tipple! Popped into the village bar for a drink and was given a warm welcome before ride back to La Vieille Maison. Swimming, and blackberry/apple picking. Crumble for tea – fantastic!! PM:- Local hog roast – too late for us!!
Day 3: Great early morning cycle - borrowed mountain bikes in the shed. More donkey -feeding after lazy breakfast and car racing competition in the playroom. Stayed around the pool all day as it was a glorious day and finished off with a great BBQ and too much red wine. Bliss!! PM Lovely early night!
Day 4: Finally ventured out to La Tranche sur Mer. Great beach with very warm water and great rock pools for crabbing. Love it. Lunch in La Patouille restaurant.
Day 5: Lazy day by the pool. Blackberry picking and scrumping for apples, with Jan brandishing yet more veg. Croissants and lovely bread from the ‘bread lady’ at 9.30am. Zac was very brave and tried out his French – Bravo!!
Day 6: Very overcast day, so went to Chantonnay for the market. No market now on a Thursday and Chantonnay was very uninspiring. Has a rural bimble instead: bought local jam and back for hot-dogs and cheese on toast with lovely bread, again from the ‘bread lady’. Again Zac bought bread with superb ‘franglais’. PM BBQ with our neighbours from La Maison en Pierre (Kevin, Gill, Gemma & Ollie from Bingley)
Day 7: Beautiful sunshine all day. Offered the boys a trip to the beach, but they declined, wanting to stay here by the pool. Had it all to ourselves, interspersed with blackberry picking (huge & juicy) apple scrumping, and watching the four new hens settle into their new home. Mick & Jan surely have a rural heaven; we had a wonderful week.
Thank you so much for your hospitality and we look forward to returning in the future.

Wonderful 2 weeks at La Maison en Pierre – beautiful house, which we have all enjoyed very much. The swimming pool, games room and fresh garden produce are a real bonus and provided much fun & enjoyment. Lovely weather, visiting many different beaches along the coastline and the Ile de Re. Very enjoyable, memorable holiday – thank you both so very much for your suberb hospitality which was really appreciated. Best wishes with your continued hard work on the barn.
P.S I collected 88 conkers. Can you beat my record??? Oliver, age 9

Thank you very much for a lovely stay, we have had a great time. Fantastic, well equipped house with everything that we needed. The chickens & playroom were a great hit with Harry (20 months). Veg from the garden was very good, especially the tomatoes. Thank you, we hope to be back another year.
